Effect of COVID 19 on employees productivity has always been a big question mark. The COVID 19 has already created a global impact from the basics norms of life to the most critical business decisions. About 80 percent of the world is on a lock down. The results are already here with oil prices taking all time dip and trading at negative for the first time in human history, on contrary the world is going towards a rehab period, and with all this in place the world might observe a global shift of technology and will enter into the new world of digitalization moving to the fifth generation era.
From over past two decades the amount of changes humankind has observed in the field of technology, everything has moved digital, the business processes are entirely automated, whether it’s the accounting charts to predict next organizational move, forecasting the supplies & demands, enhancing the delivery periods or improving the potential opportunities record keeping. Organizations adopted different approaches to enhance their work place productivity too, tried automation in field of Human resource, started with have installation of surveillance cameras to observe employee(s) behaviors and work place activities, moving on to task based rewarding systems and finally automating complete HR processes that including the Time Attendance Management, Employee Performance Management, Employee learning & training, Payroll and other HR related operations.
Where the people working in production or logistics department had to risk their lives to keep the world running the other major challenge for organization has to engage and observe the administrative or the backend team to contribute equally. The organizations have asked employees to Work From Home (WFH).
Though few companies had already been practicing work from home but COVID 19 has now enforced most of the companies to adopt the practice of work from home. Number of ideas are shared all over the media to improve the employee engagement and productivity. Yet many HR professionals are still busy in stimulating KPI(s) that would improve the overall work efficiency and contribution in organizational goal achievements.
We can conclude that effect of COVID 19 on employees productivity can be seen as negative and positive. We can see the negative part as employees are not able to perform in full capacity while working from home. However the current situation has enforced organization to move toward digitization positively.
